Guru jee, kirpa karo! (2010)

This is an old post, from 2010. I am reposting it today.

It all started, or rather resurfaced with veer Gurmukh's post on gender equality, all lip service and deedless talks. so people started talking about the issue, why women aren't taken as panj pyare in the Amrit Sanchar. now, Amrit Sanchar is a spiritual experience, where in general terms we might say it is like an initiation ceremony, or baptism, to prove your commitment and love. or for some, its just simply, following the Guru's path. and He Himself, 10th paathshah, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, had said that there should not be any discrimination, that a woman can go to gurdwara like any man, and she too, can take Amrit. then why this argument on women not being allowd to give Amrit?
the arguments I have heard so far is :MARYADA.
according to the people, the same people who are my brothers and sisters in religion, back in 1699, on that Fateful, Historical, Magical Vasakhi Day, when Dasam Paathsah Guru Gobind Singh had asked for 5 heads, when he wanted 5 people who could prove their devoted love to him, the Panj Pyare (5 Beloved) that emerged from the 5 men, from all caste and creed, were MEN.
and imagine me, a 20 plus year old girl, hearing this news. they were MEN, therefore WOMEN cannot give Amrit today.
then what about their caste, their occupations??shouldnt we then get 5 pyare who are respectively from so and so occupation and so and so caste?? since Guru jee had said to eliminate all that, we dont even consider that right? then did he say, ok my beloved Sikhs, my beloved Children, my beloved, i will be biased and only allow the men to give the amrit?
yes,I admit I am kachi, not even a little wise in knowledge of Gurbani compared to all these people. But please, I ask of you all, did GURU GOBIND SINGH JI ever say, write or give HUKAM that a woman cannot administer the holy, magical, awesome amrit?? please, show us women some proof, but how? how can the same jot, the continuation of the same GURU NANAK, who had earlier said,
So Kio manda akhiyeh, jit jamay rajaan
why call er dirty, she who gives birth to Kings;
say otherwise?
how can Guru Gobind Singh contradict what Guru Nanak had said??
another point would be, I feel, something someone else had pointed out too. looking at the social and demography point of view back in 1699, how many women do you think were there, in Anandpur Sahib? or how many would have been brave enough, seeing as to back in the days, women did not have as much freedom or the privileges we have today? if he were to ask us today, would there still be no women? the probability changes with sample size and population, or so we have learnt in statistics.
they forget, who was the person who put the patasay into the amrit?so that we may be as sweet as we are strong,as saintly as we are soldiers? why did Guru jee not stop the WOMAN who is our Dharam Mother, telling her she is a woman?
this is how i feel, being a daughter of this panth.
i remember the day, in Harmandir Sahib, heaven on Earth, whn Mom, tears in her eyes, remorse in words, said to my brother, your sisters and I will not get an opportunity like you to do seva in the Darbar (as ladies are not allowed). Kirtan too there, ladies not allowed.
please, Guru jee, please. give me the strength, give me the peace.

Greetings...

Ignorance` is a most dreaded nuclear-weapon of destruction`
whereas Knowledge` is an elixir for life, living & livingfulness...

Opinion.. Perception.. Immaturity.. and many other such infutile virtues of being good is nothing but the spell of Ignorance. Intelligence.. Knowledge.. Sapiency.. through the gains of science & scriptures definitively make a person wise, prudent, discreet and savvy in approaching and applying all of self towards better direction for perfection. Human is divinity at work, towards perfection... the gist of our Guru`Maryada & Sikhya

Dear Ash Ji...

As an answer to your quest & angst, please enrich self being aware and awake that we all are androgynous (having both masculine and feminine characteristics), a dichotomy of having a beingness of male & female. A male is a male because he has a few percentage more of masculinity. Similarly, a female is a female because she has a few percentage more of femininity. Pan-determination.. Environment.. Nature's Selection.. Responsibility.. Commitment.. Considerations.. Veneration & Vulnerability.. Concern.. Care.. are certain fundamentals that holds a female for certain feminine virtues, deeds, doings, acts and conducts. A female who can mange to grow beyond this bond and barrages, impediments.. she can definitively work better and discretely in equipoise with a male and his so being of masculinity

In furtherance to this, let's not talk, debate or discuss what our great Gurus have done.. They all worked great as a doer` befitting to their para`knowledge which we all Sikhs today follow as Guru` Maryada & Sikhya, unconditionally. Lest, we must apply self by dint of scientific analytic to know and re-know the best content & contains in the beautiful ordainment set by our great Gurus in context to the pure / para Knowledge been reduced in the worlds most venerable scripture "Dhann Sri Guru Granth Saheb Ji". It does answer all...

Irrespective of gender -male or female- caste or creed, belief of religion, whosoever intends all of self to be (not become) and start practicing life, living and livingfulness as per Guru` Maryada & Sikhya, they all are entitled to seek baptism "Amrit-Sanchar'. Thereby ennobling, empowering, enabling and entraining a peculiar and particular pattern of approaching and applying all of self towards better direction for perfection. Because.. Human is Divinity at work, towards perfection.

Etymology of Amrit... We address and pronounce this word as : AMRIT`
AMRIT` = A`MRIT = NON`MRIT = NON`DEATH= NON`ANNIHILATED = IMMORTAL` =ETERNAL`
Then what is Amrit unto its etymological meaning Immortal & Eternal?
Its only the Soul.. the source of our Life.. Living.. Livingfulness.. here unto beyond.
Being in trustworthiness, truthfulness of self towards your own Soul` ; A Divine Within` through the needed pathway or road-map of knowledge to do so is the Gur` Maryada & Sikhya, whereas the process Initiation` for this is what we extol to address as Amrit-Sanchar.

KNOWING OF SELF IS KNOWING OF GOD...

"Joh Brahmande Soi Pinde Joh Khoje Soh Paveh
Pipa Pranveh Param Tatv Hai Satgur Hoeh Lakhaveh"

Guru`Fateh...
God Bless All... Divine, Knowing and Re-knowing all of Self

Vaheguru je ka Khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh.

Bhainji, we seem to overlook the seva we have been given and question why we can't participate in certain seva. Mata Khivi ji was devoted to langar de seva is that a lesser seva? to serve people who are children of Guru Sahib?
By women not distributing Amrit is not saying women are less or bad in way, so therefore not contradicting Guru Nanak Dev ji's teachings.
It is worth noting that equality does not equate to sameness. We were given different surnames Singh and kaur, so Maharaaj identified there are differences between us.
At the time of Amrit sanchaars in Guru Gobind Singh ji's time, we had spiritually enlightened souls such as Mata Ajeet kaur, Mata Bhaag Kaur ji and so on, who were never given this seva, so who are we to now think we are capable? are we more than they were? Mata bhaag Kaur led armies to battle, if they wanted they could have stood up at the Amrit sanchaar as women were not oppressed in Guru Sahib Hazoori and given no less "privledges".
I don't think its right to compare ourselves to be even the dust of those Gurmukh mothers and sisters feet, so could not say that if the same event was to happen today things would be different and we or other women would stand up,many Kaurs in Guru Sahibs sangath would have already dedicated there body and soul to Guru Sahib which probably couldn't be said for many of us today.

Bhul chuk maaf
